Abraham-Louis Breguet founded the house in Paris in 1775. He is credited with the Breguet overcoil of 1795, the tourbillon of 1801 and one of the first wristwatches, in 1810. The family ran the firm until the late 19th century, after which it passed through the Browns, Chaumet and Investcorp. It has belonged to the Swatch Group since 1999 and is based in L'Abbaye, in the Vallée de Joux.
