Louis-Ulysse Chopard founded the house in 1860 in Sonvilier and moved to Geneva in 1937. In 1963 it was bought by Karl Scheufele III, whose German goldsmith family still owns it. It has made watches with free-floating diamonds since 1976, and in 1996 it opened its own movement workshop in Fleurier, the origin of the L.U.C line. It also makes the Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or.
