Citizen

Machine translation pending human review. Figures and sources match the original.

Citizen began in 1918 as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute, set up to make watches in Japan, and became a company in 1930. A year later it completed its first wristwatch. In 1976 it launched the Crystron Solar Cell, the first analogue quartz watch with a solar cell, which opened the way to Eco-Drive. That light-powered technology is its hallmark today, along with the professional Promaster line. Bulova has been part of the group since 2008.
