The brand dates its origin to 1791, when Jean-François Bautte signed his first watches in Geneva. Constant Girard founded Girard & Cie in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1852 and, after marrying Marie Perregaux, created the manufacture in 1856. Its Tourbillon with three gold bridges won a gold medal in Paris in 1889. The Laureato arrived in 1975. Kering controlled Sowind from 2011 until the 2022 management buyout.
