Heinrich Moser founded the company in St Petersburg in 1828 and sold watches to the Russian imperial court. After his death in 1874 the business was split, and the Russian side was expropriated in 1918. Roger Nicholas Balsiger, the founder's great-grandson, and Jürgen Lange set up Moser Schaffhausen in 2002, and the brand reappeared in 2005. Since 2012 it has been owned by the Meylan family, who gave it today's irreverent tone.
