IWC Schaffhausen

Machine translation pending human review. Figures and sources match the original.

The Boston watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones founded the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen in 1868, drawing on the hydropower of the Rhine. Johannes Rauschenbach bought the company in 1880. Two Portuguese importers commissioned the large watches that gave rise to the Portugieser in 1939, and the following year IWC developed its first Big Pilot. The 1948 Mark 11 and the antimagnetic Ingenieur cemented its technical reputation.
