Panerai

Machine translation pending human review. Figures and sources match the original.

Giovanni Panerai opened a workshop in Florence in 1860 that was also the city's first watchmaking school. Guido Panerai registered the name Radiomir, a luminous radium compound, in 1916, and the house supplied instruments to the Italian Royal Navy. Its watches for Navy divers, with a cushion case and wire lugs, became its identity. They were not sold to civilians until 1993, and in 1997 the Vendôme group, now Richemont, invested in the brand and took it international.
