Pilot and flight instructor Helmut Sinn founded the company in Frankfurt in 1961, selling cockpit clocks and pilot chronographs directly to customers. In 1985 astronaut Reinhard Furrer took a Sinn 140 S into space on the Spacelab D1 mission. Lothar Schmidt bought the brand in 1994. Today it is known for its mission timers, used by professionals such as divers, pilots and firefighters.
