Timex grew out of the Waterbury Clock Company, set up in Connecticut in 1854 to make clocks with brass gears. During the Second World War it became the United States Time Corporation, and the Timex brand made its debut in 1950. The 1986 Ironman made it a benchmark for sports watches, and the Indiglo night light arrived in 1992. Today it pairs inexpensive digital watches with archive reissues and mechanical models using Japanese and Swiss calibres.
