Ulysse Nardin founded the house in Le Locle in 1846 and became famous for marine chronometers used by more than 50 navies and shipping companies until 1950. Rolf Schnyder bought it in 1983 and revived it with Ludwig Oechslin through the Trilogy of Time. In 2001 the Freak brought silicon to mechanical watchmaking. Kering acquired it in 2014, and since 2022 it has belonged to Sowind Group after a management buyout.
